An open Super Bowl Thread - mainly so we can read Bob's analysis...
Initially I have two points to make:
1. An enjoyable game (though I was rooting for the loser) in part because of very few replays (I think only the one?) and penalties. Note to NFL - try to minimize replay, at least until the last 5 minutes of the game or so.
2. I am not usually a fan of the commercial watch, but I liked several of these (Dave #1 of course, but also the Snickers and the McDonalds ad). I am saddened by this, because my ultimate goal is to reduce the interest in SB commercials and go back to just watching the game.

I was clearly in the Saints' number, thanks to ex-NY Giant Jeremy Shockey. His clinching score was great redemption for him.
Did I miss any shots of E!'s Kim soon-to-be-Bush or Kendra Baskett? The latter's hubby is getting a new one reamed on sports-radio back in Indy...
The kids in Indy's receiving corps don't need to worry...they'll be around a long time...
As for Pete Townshend, cripes, it'd be strange if he =didn't= flub a line...
My favorite ads: Monster, and KISS/Dr Pepper. (The latter's being linked in the lone Google ad on the GG compose page as I type this...) Best Anheuser-Busch-InBev ad: the human bridge (that's gotta hurt).
Abe Vigoda will turn 89 in 17 days, and Betty White just turned 88. They make it look easy.

I thought the Simpsons ad was well-animated, sure, but wasn't it odd that only Moe LaMarche and Pamela Hayden had speaking roles? I guess Coke doesn't have enough dough to pay Dan Castalanetta or Harry Shearer.
Betty is a super trooper. Hope the Facebook campaign works and she gets to host SNL.

At this point, hosting SNL has to be one of Dante's circles of hell. I wouldn't wish that on Betty White. I'd much rather she host The Tonight Show.
90 minutes of Betty talking dirty at Craig Ferguson would be much, much funnier.

At my Super Bowl party, I made a bunch of advertising cliche bingo cards, and almost every term got checked off by someone. The Snickers ad let us get both "old man" and "old lady"... I was most surprised by the CSI: Miami ad which let us get "outer space".

Host-network-show ads aren't supposed to count... nor local ones (most of which were Mike Rowe at the Fahrd dealership)...

Oh, right I forgot about the Tebow anti-choice ad (see what I did there?).
I appreciated the light tone with that as well - though I suspect anyone who clicked through to Dobson's site got a little bit of a harder sell. It was never likely we were going to see images of dead babies being sucked up into garbage bags; - it is easy for the general public to lump all of the fundamentalist Christian organizations into the same boat, but say what you want about Dobson and his people, they are no dummies, and pretty good at communication and staying on their message. When it comes to hot button issues, they tend to take a relatively restrained line on anything that has their official imprint, and let their more whacky fellow travelers say all the bat shit crazy stuff, which they then kind of give an approving smile and nod to, without getting their hands dirty.
My objection to this ad (aside from the general principle that I am sick to my stomach of anything Tebow-related by now) was not that they allowed an anti-abortion ad, but that they have consistently not allowed other kinds of issue ads (didn't they nix an anti-war ad a couple of year ago?). I guess if they had an ad with Cindy Sheehan getting playfully tackled by her son they would have let that on too ..... Oh, right, I guess she could not have made that ad.

I am not sure if this is reigional or not, but when we were kids we used to play "slug bug" on trips - you would punch the kid next to you if you saw a VW Beetle (maybe V Dub's were not as popular back east, but there were enough out here in California to ensure hours of slugging your buddy or sibling fun). I got a kick out of them referencing that game in the commercial
Abe was the old guy who got tackled at the end of the Snicker's ad

I am not going to defend SNL too much, but even the last couple of years, a good host can give the show a fun (even when not funny) vibe. John Ham's recent turn is a good example - the show was not always funny, but he was always fun to watch, and is just below Justin Timberlake as a contemporary go to SNL Host. OTOH, his Mad Men co-star January Jones, always fun to look to look at, was excruiating to watch when she hosted SNL - just sucked the life out of every skit she was in.
I would like to see Betty White do it - she's the best.

VW club members got an email in late January about PunchDub, which VW claims was invented 50 years ago by a man named Sluggy Patterson. There are videos where Sluggy explains how he invented PunchDub and other vital historical facts at http://www.vw.com/punchdub/sluggy/ or you can find it on the YouTubes.
And since the Skechers ad at the bottom was a re-air, the lowest-rated ad was yet another Danica Patrick ad for GoDaddy. It isn't shocking anymore, guys, if it ever was. Give it up.

I love Betty, but have to wonder if she'd have the stamina to do a week of rehearsals and 90 live minutes. Although lately it seems the job consists of doing a lame monologue and reading cue cards.
