MXO2 is strictly I/O. It lets you play your timeline out to HD/SDI, as
well as capture uncompressed or into ProRes.
The MAX technology adds accelerated H.264 encoding.

Question for Gary
My company has just bought a Matrox MXO2 (with Max) and I'm trying to get my
head around it!
The main purpose is for interfacing an HDSDI switcher with a computer for
Internet Streaming, and that I mostly understand. The bit that remains a
mystery is the claim that it 'understands' XDCam, DVCPro, (AVCIntra?) etc.

Yes sir it was....lol. Also the suggestion to use a slight amount of vertical blur was another work around you can get away with in the SD/interlaced world. Thank you.

Joe I think blu-ray ultimately is viewed on a progressive scan display; so your 1080i footage is ultimately converted to progressive scan and that makes those progressive scan stills very happy, right? lol.
I used to work on the show Seinfeld and have some old rare gag reels on VHS that I digitized and made a DVD with. The progressive scan plates I made that went on the timeline to id each gag reel flicker in this 29.97 project. The same or similar plates used in the menus are solid with no flicker? I have run into interlaced flicker before when I made some photo montages as well. Just was looking to see what others did in a similar work flow to deal with it is all.

The solution is to have no flicker on both types of displays....there are still millions and millions of interlaced NTSC displays out there and will be for years to come!

stressing compatibility with CRTs again, then we'll also have to check
projectors of all types. And Plasma and LCD. And what about all those

Resize slightly can help. I've even masked out the really jittery
parts and applied a light blur. Don't know if Vegas can do that,
as I use something else. In some cases, if it's really bad (lots
of thin lines in the pic) I might make a freeze frame withe just

I'm not sure I understand the question. I do photo montages and render
to 1080i for inclusion in our weddings. They get dropped on the
timeline and go to blu-ray as 1080i. But they're all progressive 1080p
pics when I bring them in.

What are you doing in Vegas or any NLE when you are working on an interlaced project bringing in progressive scan stills to prevent interlaced flickering/ Please don't just say you click the switch in your NLE to reduce interlaced flicker...lol. Appreciate any input here.

I think this would have been much better titled "updated" products
rather than "new products". Although I'm not too familiar with many of
the items, I think it's kind of silly to claim a version 9 app like
Vegas is 'new', or any app with a version besides 1 in the name.
Blu-ray burners weren't new in 2009, were they?
